Garlic Bread


Braid Shaped Garlic Bread Recipe



- Easy and delicious homemade braid shaped garlic bread. Made from scratch dough with delicious ingredients. Perfect addition to every meal, it is typically served as appetiser or starter before having a full course meal or a pizza meal or goes well as a snack. Garlic bread tastes heaven, literally melts in mouth, smells amazing. Both adults and kids favourite.
All you need are some bread flour/AP flour, a few other ingredients and a thing called TIME. Making this bread takes around 15 minutes of your time to prepare. Then the rest of the time is just waiting ( that's the thing which we the the people are not good at). A little waiting for rising and a little waiting for baking is all it takes then you will be amazed with the end result.
I have made braid shaped garlic bread but you can also go ahead and bake your own favourite shaped garlic bread. Its always fun making with kids.

Tips & Suggestions, I have used dry yeast in this recipe but you can also replace yeast with baking soda and baking powder. Always bake the garlic bread in a preheated oven (preheat the oven for 10 minutes). Try this quick and easy garlic bread and do let me know how it turned out for you!

Prep time: approx 15 minutes
Resting time: 1 hour
Cooking time: 15 minutes

Yields: 2 medium
Serve: 2-4 persons

Ingredients:


for making dough:

Plain flour - 1cup (128g)
Warm milk - 1/4 cup(60ml)
Dry yeast - 1tsp
Sugar - 1tsp
Garlic - 2 cloves (finely chopped)
Dry basil/oregano - 1/2tsp
Unsalted butter - 1tbsp (melted)
Salt to taste

for garlic butter:

Unsalted butter - 5tsp/room temperature
Garlic - 3 cloves (finely chopped)
Fresh basil/parsley/coriander leaves - 3tbsp (finely chopped)

for toppings/ seasoning:

Dry red chilli flakes - 1/2tsp(optional)
Sea salt a pinch
Dry basil/oregano - 1/4tsp


Method:


making dough:

1.) Add warm milk+dry yeast to a small bowl, mix well and rest it for 6 minutes or allows it raise.

2.) Take a large mixing bowl, add flour+chopped garlic+sugar+melted butter+dry basil+salt+yeast mixture, mix well with your fingers and start to knead the dough for a good 5mins, tuck the dough and make like a ball.

3.) Coat the dough with oil, cover the bowl with a lid or kling film and rest for at least 1 hour or until it is doubled in size.

making garlic butter:

1.) Add melted butter+fresh basil/parsley/coriander+chopped garlic to a small bowl, stir and leave it aside.

making braid shaped garlic bread:


- Preheat the oven @180 degrees.

1.) Punch the dough which has been resting since 1 hour time and roll into ball and take out on to a lightly dusted(with flour) surface/work top. Roll it with rolling pin to a vowel shape.

2.) Make cuts around by leaving top and bottom edges on rolled dough as shown in the picture.

3.) Now spread the garlic butter well on top of it and avoiding the edges.

4.) First fold in the top and bottom strips and wet the edges with little water as shown in the picture.

5.) Now try to overlap one right strip then left strip again right strip and left strip, continue until you seal the garlic bread dough with all the strips, as shown in the picture.

6.) lift it up gently and place it on a lined baking tray.

7.) Brush again with garlic butter, sprinkle chilli flakes+dry basil+sea salt.
8.) Bake in preheated oven @180 degrees for 15 minutes.

9.) Once it is baked, take out and let it cool for 5 minutes and cut the garlic bread and serve with ketchup.
